Every year the Colorado Firefighter Calendar, Inc. produces a calendar full of steamy firefighters where all net proceeds are donated to The Children’s Hospital Burn Center and Burn Camp Program. This year I was fortunate enough to not only participate in the fundraising event but I was chosen as a 2013 calendar model as well. This video is of my interview…the event is broken up into 2 main components, the interview portion and the runway portion.

That Common Attic Will Do It

AN EARLY MORNING FIRE IN BOLTON, ONTARIO, had several families fleeing for their lives Wednesday.

The fire started shortly after 3 am on a back porch of one of the townhouses that stretched along a city block.  All of the homes had working smoke detectors but the fire was spreading outside and into the attic before some of them were activated.  Neighbors throughout the block mobilized to see that everybody was awakened and evacuated safely, which they accomplished.

The blaze destroyed four homes and severely damaged two others that may be able to be salvaged.  The roofs of three of them collapsed as the fire ran the common attic area of the block.

The FD arrived on the scene around 3:30 and set up containment operations immediately.  The 80 firefighters had the fire knocked down by 6 am.

This is video from Saturday’s fire at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house near Louisiana Tech. Thanks to STATter911.com reader Kevin Wells for alerting us to the video of the collapse.

At least three firefighters have been taken to North Louisiana Medical Center for injuries and heat exhaustion as crews continue to battle the fire that began around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Ruston Police.

Lt. Tim Parker, spokesman for the Ruston Police Department, said the fire began in the fireplace or chimney of the Pike house, and quickly reached the attic where it grew rapidly.

He said one firefighter was injured when the roof of the building collapsed, knocking down a flight of stairs the man was standing on. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

KSLA-TV:

Eric Brazzel with the Ruston Fire Department says some of the members of the fraternity were burning notes to celebrate the end of classes, but they don’t think that alone is what caused the extensive damage.

“The students did say that they had a fire in the fireplace going, and they were just commemorating the school year by getting rid of their old notes. There’s nothing wrong with that. There’s no problems with that. We do feel like there may be a structural component with the fireplace or chimney that might have let the fire extend into the wall space there around the fireplace,” says Brazzel.

He added that part of the metal box for the fire place may have decayed.

Parker said the blaze caused the collapse of the roof, which sent a plume of fire and smoke into the air, and caused some area residents to believe an explosion rocked the house when it was simply the collapsing structure.

NORTH CHARLESTON – Citations issued against the City of North Charleston following a 2010 blaze that sent three firefighters to the hospital have been dropped, sources say.  The fire happened on Purity Drive on July 7, 2010. Firefighter John Bolton ended up in the Augusta Burn Center for several days with second degree burns. Captain William Odum and Firefighter Antwon Green were also injured.  (more…)

CHARLESTON – Sounds of crackling could be heard as smoke traveled through a slit in the door. A Charleston firefighter opened the door, and it was all orange from the flames.  Firefighters carried a hose and put out the fires that lit up their training tower on Monday. All four floors at the Charleston training tower had blazes inside them, each one with a unique scenario.  (more…)

LEXINGTON – A tug-of-war over tax hikes for law enforcement and fire protection erupted Tuesday among Lexington County Council members.  The nine council members are divided over adding about $7.50 to the yearly bill of a $100,000 home to give deputies more technology and other tools to fight crime and for the addition of 10 firefighters.  (more…)
