EMS “Frequent Flyer” Abuse

A recent article at JEMS.com on EMS System Abuse told of examples of "frequent flyers" (that is non-emergency patients requesting multiple transports by EMS agencies on a fairly regular basis) many of which would be amusing if they weren't so sad.  The … Read More »

“No Available EMS”

No one really wants to read a bad story about some other EMS agency, but it is even worse to read a similar story about your own.  The purpose of this post is not to make Detroit into some EMS "posterchild" but intended to shed some light on simil… Read More »

Blog Carnival 5: Minimum Standards?

Personally, I believe that there needs to be, at least at the state level, a system that requires continuing education and minimum job performance evaluations. I have heard that the last thing the fire service needs is more unfunded mandates required by non-firefighting personnel. To that comment, I agree. However, it cannot be overlooked that we are in a time and era of firefighting like we have never seen before. We have all heard someone say that “this ain’t your father’s fire service anymore.” Read More »

Fire Chief Blogs His Way Through Fire Academy Experience

Not only is he hanging it out on the line for all of his firefighters to see if he's got the right stuff to be considered one of their own, but he's exposing his fire academy laundry for the public to see through his blog. Both take a lot of guts for a 50-year old fire chief and I give him a lot of credit. It's good reading and contains fire service and life lessons for all of us. Check out "On Scene with Car 1." See for yourself. Read More »

Blogfest 20 – Governor Schwarzenegger – Dumbbell Finder

This is hilarious. The Governor finds dumbbells. While I have never paid attention and looked for dumbbells. I do know that in house fires for some reason pornographic magazines always make it through. There must be some substance on them that makes them… Read More »
