Booth Babes, FDIC another 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and more!

I guess Rhett and I were kinda like the FoxFire "booth babes". I say that for several reasons. One of the reasons is because we were wearing kilts. Not dresses ... kilts (it's defined by what you ARE or are NOT wearing under em ...lol). Not just any kilt either. We were wearing our custom kilts from ALT KILT. Read More »

Going Forward in the Fire Service

I am often reluctant to write about commercial business ventures in my blogs and other platforms as I am sensitive to the trusted relationship between a writer and their readers, and leary about self-promotion. Thus I have delayed writing this post for q… Read More »

Heading to Baltimore for EMS Today and the Blogger Meetup!

Willie Wines Jr. and I are heading to Baltimore for the Meetup at EMS Today. Our stay will be short and we aren't even sure if we will make it to the exhibit hall on Friday or have to head home early yet. However, if you are in Baltimore and want to catch up with us and network with so many other bloggers and EMS professionals plan to attend the meetup. These meetups that are at the various Fire and/or EMS conferences are a blast. They are typically hosted by JEMS, Fire Rescue Magazine, FireEMSBlogs.com, or Firefighter Nation and are well enjoyed by many. Don't worry, you don't have to be a member or blogger of those networks...just plan on coming and having fun! Read More »

Reporters and Bloggers

Although bloggers seem to be maturing over the last few years and are coming in line with more traditional journalistic standards there is still one big difference. A reporter has to be beholden to his maker (his editor and editorial board) while most independent bloggers are beholden only to their own conscience. Read More »

Firefighter Netcast at Fire Rescue International

We were able to record about 10 individual podcasts. Many were produced for Tim Sendlebach and his crew at Fire Rescue Magazine. A couple others for Dave Statter and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The audio for the NFFF will be available later on Firefighter Netcast. Art Goodrich was able to record a couple as well. He actually got to interview Rob Schnepp (Cyanokit) and Steven Pasquale. You might know Steven from his roll as "White Sean" or Sean Garrity on Rescue me. Read More »

Press Kits that cost more then our Department Budgets

Kind of a strange post today that takes us to a world of public relations we never see. Last month I had a meeting with some of my staff to figure out ways to make our press presentation packages look better. We have outstanding brochures and flyers, but were lacking in ways to present customized materials. Both in the Department, and in my regular job, budgets continue to get crunched so there is not much latitude to be creative if it increases cost. The big brainstorm was to get a machine that allows us to do spiral binding of presentation folders. Read More »
